I am excited to announce that I am joining the team at Indicium Dynamics, a team I have long admired and who, through sheer will and determination, has navigated the early years of being a ‘Start-up’, is now ready to ‘Scale Up’.
After a period of reflection, I have a renewed focus on what is important, and for me, that is how technology plays a role in enabling organisations around the world, who realise that with a deep commitment to sustainability and #MeasuringWhatMatters, they can make an impact in tackling the challenges (and opportunities) that we collectively face – and when done right, have a win on the bottom line at the same time.
Measuring Change is at the Heart of IoT and Cyber-Physical Systems
We now live in a world where environmental consciousness is no longer an option but a necessity. As businesses and individuals, we must all understand the concepts of #Sustainability and #NetZero and start placing real-world financial value on #NaturalCapital.
Sustainability encompasses responsible practices of meeting present needs without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their needs.
Net Zero refers to the balance achieved when the amount of greenhouse gas emissions produced is equal to the amount removed from the atmosphere.
Natural Capital encompasses the Earth's resources and ecosystems that provide essential services to human societies, such as clean air, fresh water, fertile soil, and biodiversity. As humans face the growing threat of climate change and resource depletion, preserving natural capital is imperative for a sustainable future.
Enter the Internet of Things (IoT) and Cyber-Physical Systems (CPS), technologies that have the potential to revolutionise our relationship with the environment. IoT devices collect vast amounts of data from the natural and built world, and when combined with CPS, which incorporates artificial intelligence (AI) techniques, enables us to enhance human-machine teaming to allow us to monitor, understand, and protect our ecosystems in unprecedented ways.
The Road Ahead: Measuring What Truly Matters
As we embark on a new chapter for Indicium Dynamics, our team has taken a moment to reflect on the core areas that truly matter to us, setting a renewed and clear path forward.
Here are the crucial focal points of our journey:
Purposeful Scaling: Our primary ambition is to expand the influence of our IoT solutions on a global scale, but it is not just about reach — it is about making a meaningful difference. Partnering with organisations that share our vision, we are determined to drive changes in behaviour in various sectors using our technology.
Story proving, not just storytelling: The data our IoT devices generate is not just numbers — it is a goldmine of insights. We are dedicated to delving deeper into this data to sharpen our understanding of natural capital, leading us and our customers to more informed and impactful conservation efforts.
Sustainable Adaptation: At the core of Indicium Dynamics is the spirit of survival and adaptation. Our commitment is to invest in R&D that does not just push the technological envelope but does so with sustainability as a guiding principle.
Championing Disruptive Thoughts: Beyond our technological endeavours, we recognise the power of advocacy and education. It is essential for us to engage and educate, businesses, policymakers, and communities about the benefits and necessities of sustainable practices. Our goal is to drive both awareness and actionable change.
As I begin again, I am excited by the potential of technology to drive our agenda forward, to lead a team that wants to challenge the status quo… and critically, to Accept the Challenge to Change.
In a recent session with the team, a dear friend of mine observed that “if you enjoy what you do, you’ll never work a day in your life”.
Consider me retired, it is time to Measure What Matters.
